Saturday, 17 April 2010 | Shihan Peter Chong

A buffet dinner, SOKK NITE – THE LIVING LEGEND, was held last Saturday, 17 April, 2010 at the Brewerkz Indoor Stadium Restaurant especially to honour the President & Chief Instructor, Shihan Peter Chong, PBM, 8th Dan, Asia's highest ranking Karate exponent (outside Japan), who has received the prestigious International Martial Arts Living Legend Award conferred by The International Martial Arts Academy on 14 November 2009 at Pittsburg, USA

Shihan Chong has done Singapore, Asia and Kyokushin Karate proud for being the only recipient, among the more than 300 nominated martial arts nominees from all over the world, to receive the award from Grandmaster John C Kanzler, Executive Director of the International Martial Arts Academy on 14 December 2009 at Pittsburg, USA.

Shihan Chong, Singapore’s most enduring Karate exponent in Singapore and the region, just celebrated his 70th birthday 2 weeks’ ago. At the buffet dinner night, he enthralled the more than 200 diners (members, sponsors, friends and supporters) with his amazing Kyokushin Karate power, by breaking 10 blocks of frozen ice (stacked above each other) with his bare hand while standing on 2 trays of chicken eggs. The 10 blocks of ice were totally smashed and sprawled to the ground with no block of ice left unturned and no egg was left broken. Till date, there is no record in the world of anyone performing that incredible feat.

Shihan Peter Chong is also the President of the Singapore Karate-Do Federation (SKF), and has been for many years till 2009, also the President of the Singapore Martial Arts Instructors’ Association (SMAIA). On the international front, Shihan Chong is the Senior Advisor to the International Karate Organisation-Kyokushinkaikan (IKO Japan), Chairman of the IKO Asia & the Middle East countries.
